Malley & Co

A Bold Brand Refresh and Website Launch to Celebrate a New Era

In 2023, Malley & Co, a prominent law firm in Christchurch, approached us with an exciting dual challenge: a brand refresh and a new website to coincide with their move back to the heart of Christchurch city. This milestone marked not just a physical relocation after the 2011 earthquakes but a symbolic step forward for the firm - reflecting their evolution, modernity, and continued commitment to leadership and innovation in their field.

Given the interconnected nature of a law firm’s brand and online presence, we treated the two projects as complementary, ensuring that the key objectives of boldness, approachability, and boutique professionalism were woven through both the visual identity and the online user experience.

Brand Identity Refresh

Our work on Malley & Co’s brand identity began with a deep dive into their core values and aspirations. From the outset, key themes of boldness, innovation, leadership, partnership, and modernity informed every design decision.

We approached the brand refresh with the following steps:

  • Logo Development: Crafting a logo that encapsulated the firm’s modern and innovative spirit while honoring their heritage.

  • Typography and Color Exploration: Selecting fonts and colors that reflected their boutique yet approachable ethos.

  • Print and Digital Collateral: As the project progressed, Jayde Drumm, Brooks & Boyd's Lead Creative took over the design and delivery of the brand outputs, ensuring all assets—business cards, presentation folders, email signatures, and digital materials—aligned seamlessly with the firm’s bold new identity.

  • Social Media Campaign: Creating a teaser and launch campaign to generate excitement about their new identity.

Website Design + Build

To extend the brand’s impact and meet the growing needs of their clients, we partnered with Jayde Drumm to spearhead the website design. Jayde’s focus was on creating a user experience unlike any other in the legal sector, blending intuitive functionality with a striking design aesthetic.

We then collaborated with Glen Honeybone for the website’s development. Glen’s expertise ensured the technical execution matched the creative vision, resulting in a seamless and high-performing platform.

Key considerations in the website project included:

  • Boutique Design Aesthetic: The website’s sleek and modern design mirrors the boldness and expertise of Malley & Co while subtly nodding to the firm’s heritage. The site doesn’t give away all the details, instead inviting users to explore and discover the firm’s significant expertise.

  • Mobile-First Approach: Understanding the predominantly mobile browsing habits of their target audience, we prioritised a mobile-led design that ensured a flawless experience across devices.

  • User Experience: Jayde’s expertise in UX design helped bring the brand to life online, creating a smooth and intuitive journey for prospective and current clients.

The Outcome

Together, the refreshed brand identity and the newly launched website mark a pivotal moment for Malley & Co. The cohesive visual identity and online presence reflect their boutique, expert nature while positioning them as leaders in their industry. The brand refresh and website now work in harmony to communicate their values of innovation, leadership, and approachability.

Malley & Co’s new identity stands as a testament to their growth and evolution, and their new website serves as a digital extension of their commitment to excellence. With both projects successfully completed, Malley & Co is poised for continued success, strengthened by a bold and modern presence in both the physical and digital spaces.
